Cancer Rising

"July 22nd marks the era forever of Cancer Rising's reign of terror" Judas of CR, from the MP Mixtape

Judas and Gatsby, otherwise known as Cancer Rising are no newcomers to the music game. Both raised in extremely musical families, each embraced soul, funk and hip-hop at an early age. CR's influences run deep and spans genres with artists such as Marvin Gaye, Bobby Womack, Sound Garden and Vivaldi named as some of their influences. Their knowledge and love for music is made clear by their diverse, fresh sound, taking hip hop one step further.

Long time friends, Judas and Gatsby formed the group "Cancer Rising" in 2000 deciding that they were ready to make a statement with their soul and funk influenced Hip-Hop. CR then began the long writing process of what would become their first EP, "Sippin Music". Over the next 2 years Cancer Rising would perfect their live show, continuously record new songs and develop their unique sound.

Through a mutual friend, Cancer Rising hooked up with another up and coming talent in the Seattle scene, producer Manat MacLeod. MacLeod crafted the sonic textures of "Sippin Music" and at the time had begun working with Matt D, another talented producer and owner of MadPassion Entertainment. In late 2002, the group had nearly completed "Sippin Music" with the 2 producer/engineers playing a vital role in bringing the project to fruition. They released the freshman project, "Sippin Music" Spring 2003.

Their single, "Sunshinin" has received play on KEXP 90.3 after gaining incredible listener response from their Street Soundz show (Sundays 6-8pm.)
